52 pedestrians killed in 2014 in Quebec

octobre-mois-consacre-securite-pietonsTo counter the alarming number of deaths of pedestrians, the Society of Quebec automobile insurance held in October Month of the pedestrian, to encourage the general population to exercise the utmost vigilance to ensure their safety.

Every day in Quebec, about eight pedestrians hit by a vehicle. Last year, 52 pedestrians have died and nearly 2,600 were injured.

The SAAQ reminds that pedestrians are vulnerable because they have no protection in case of impact. So these are drivers to be extra careful, especially at intersections.

To prevent accidents, pedestrians also have rules to follow. They must cross the passages reserved for them, and respect the pedestrian lights.

Throughout the month of October, awareness activities will take place in several regions of Quebec.
