The famous Israeli model Bar Refaeli top, suspected of failing to declare a part of its revenue abroad by lying about his residence, was arrested Thursday and released on bail, said the Israeli authorities.
The model who often talk of the town is also suspected of failing to report favors as luxury apartment loan or a car worth “more than a million shekels” ($ 358,000), said Revenue Authority in a statement.
His mother, Zipora, was also arrested, the authorities considered that it had not reported income abroad reaching “tens of millions of shekels.”
Israeli citizens residing abroad are not obliged to declare their income outside the country. But the Israeli authorities accuse the supermodel and her mother have created a false residence abroad in order to pass between Israeli and pay tax in fine mesh less tax.
The authorities also accused the supermodel to have lived in luxury apartments registered under the names of his mother and brother.
Authorities said the two women should have also declare “rebates” related to their celebrity status. The investigation culminated Wednesday with the search of their apartments. On Thursday, a court in Tel Aviv ordered their arrest and bail.
The two women have been forced to leave their passports to justice and are not allowed to leave the country without permission for a period of six months. Their lawyers have at this stage not comment on the court decision.
Bar Refaeli, married to Israeli businessman Adi Ezra, had already been in trouble in the past with the Israeli authorities. In 2010, a general had urged people to boycott products that boasted in advertisements as a result of his refusal to do his two years of compulsory military service.
