(SHERBROOKE) Mayor of Lac-Mégantic, Colette Roy Laroche, today announced his retirement from municipal politics. She will not seek re-election at the next municipal election on 1 November 2015.
In a letter she wrote addressed to citizens, it explains the reasons for its withdrawal. “The taste is strong to continue since Lac-Mégantic enters the stage of the reconstruction of the disaster area after two years of rehabilitation, decontamination and land planning. “The train derailment in Lac-Mégantic in 2013, made 47 victims. The tragedy also completely disfigured downtown Lac-Mégantic.
Mayor of Lac-Mégantic since 2002, however, it mentions that despite his desire to stay, she had to review its priorities given the amount of work and time required for a job at City Hall.
“The amount of work required for mayor, especially over the last two years and the illness and death of my husband in the past year dictate me to slow down, to rest, to think about my health and my family. ”
“There are moments in life where it’s time to close a chapter to write another one,” she wrote.
On that final note, she wishes the best of luck at the next council that it believes will be a great inspiration to rebuild the municipality. “It is with a sense of accomplishment as a citizen I leaves room for those who have the taste to put their shoulder to the wheel to the reconstruction and development of our city. ”
