A US military satellite has detected a flash Saturday heat from the Russian Metrojet Airbus that crashed soon after in the Sinai desert in Egypt, says CNN.
The American network, citing an anonymous US official, gives no further details on what has been observed by satellite instruments.
US intelligence has excluded that the plane was shot down by a missile, but the heat flash observed by the satellite “suggests that a catastrophic event – including possibly a bomb – occurred in flight,” says CNN, stressing that experts examine other possibilities.
For now, no official explanation supported by the analysis of the wreckage and the flight recorders has been advanced.
Investigators began on Tuesday to analyze the contents of the black boxes of the Airbus, which could help determine the cause of the crash which made 224 victims.
The armed group Islamic State said Saturday, in a statement, have “dropped” the A321 in retaliation to the Russian bombing in Syria.
A qualified claim of propaganda by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sissi.
