Fire: Evacuation on Papineau Street

At around 9 am, the fire alarm broke out inside the building located on Papineau Street in Sherbrooke, after a fire started on the couch of a resident, a living septuagenarian single before moving to the summer.

“We all got out of the building quickly, unless it mentions one of the residents of the building. She would not come out and tried to extinguish the fire, but it did not work. ”

This last, bothered by smoke, was taken to hospital as a precaution. There is no fear for his life. No one was injured and the dog and two cats of the lady are also unharmed.

Twenty firefighters made sure the flames do not spread to the three-story building. These have resulted in $ 25,000 in damages.

“The fire was quickly contained and was contained in a single housing,” says Lee Hansford, chief of operations of the protection service against fires Sherbrooke.

The operations have led to the evacuation of some forty residents of the building, who could return to their respective home around 10: 30 pm, with the exception of the fire housing.

The exact cause of the fire remains unknown for the moment investigators. on-site people still suspected that smoking materials can cause fire.
