Haitians are voting in parliamentary elections

homme-passe-devant-mur-tapissePolling stations have opened in Haiti Sunday for the first round of parliamentary elections, the first elections held since the coming to power of President Michel Martelly in May 2011.

With nearly four years of delay, the 5.8 million voters were called to elect all of their deputies and two thirds of the Senate. More than 1,800 candidates are running for the 139 parliamentary posts to be filled on Sunday in an election where violence is feared.
