Hockey Quebec yesterday sent an email to the minor hockey coaches and associations to denounce the practice of punitive workouts.
The notice comes days after a Laval coach puts children 9 and 10 years wearing their equipment after a defeat .
“Hockey Quebec wishes to remind you that this practice can not be tolerated, for no consideration no matter the level,” it said in the email of the federation.
This invites coaches to use other means to get the best from their players. Hockey Quebec suggests “setting targets on specific elements” such as the number of successful passes, the amount of penalties or chances to score obtained.
The Federation also suggests the coaches to “highlight all the positive actions of [their] players.” “We also remind you that you must all be positive role models for our young players, and that experience is one more positive,”
