The future Coalition Québec (CAQ) take this election in Chicoutimi to force the Prime Minister Philippe Couillard to back down in the immigration file. The party accuses him of having decided to increase by 10,000 the number of immigrants per year in Quebec, and without consultation.
MP de Montarville, Nathalie Roy, was visiting Chicoutimi Monday to campaign together with the candidate Hélène Girard. The politicians of the CAQ asked the Liberal candidate Francyne T. Gobeil if she felt comfortable with such a policy to increase the number of immigrants and send them in areas without empowering communities welcome them.
Nathalie Roy rejected from the outset the charges Philippe Couillard to the place of caquistes members asking questions about the bill currently in the study and change the rules regarding immigration. According to Nathalie Roy, the decision to increase the number of immigrants was taken by the Prime Minister without any consultation.
“It is disturbing to be treated intolerant by the Prime Minister when asked this kind of question. Our goal is to ensure that Quebec is able to fully integrate newcomers and especially to protect the French language, “insists Nathalie Roy.
The debate that the CAQ wishes to initiate with this release regarding the obligation for immigrants to attend French classes and learning of Quebec culture make to live in Quebec. According to the MP, all the statistics confirm that the francization efforts right now are not sufficient to provide the necessary tools to immigrants who want to live outside of Montreal.
The file tracking shows that as many as 200,000 immigrants who arrived in Quebec for 20 years still do not speak French. In this vein, 80% of immigrants do not follow training on Quebec culture. “In 2014, 11% of immigrants who enroll in French courses drop out before the end. The percentage rises to 25% in regions like the Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean, “said the MP caquiste.
The bill under consideration now includes good elements, adds the MP. However, it returns to the blocking of the Premier of Quebec to increase by 50 000 to 600 000. In the positive side, it highlights the choices based on labor needs and economic criteria.
“Today, the population of Chicoutimi has the right to know what really think Francyne T. Gobeil of up 10 000 immigrants per year. Voters are not fools, they do not so easily fall into the trap of liberal improvise on such sensitive subjects while taxing intolerant of those who dare to ask legitimate questions. We can not increase immigration levels without French lessons and knowledge of Quebec’s common values are made mandatory, “concluded the candidate Hélène Girard.
