(Quebec) Two parking terminals new genre for bikes will be installed until the end of autumn to the Palais train station and the main entrance of the Old Port Market. The city administration intends to analyze user feedback before deciding if it will extend this service to other sectors.
“Cyclists deserve better than a pipe rack, a telephone pole or an old fence to tie their bikes,” says the designer of this media “unique in the world,” Louis Fournier, who believes that the price increasing high bicycle advocates for an effective and safe system like hers to prevent theft.
Described as “friendly parking terminal,” the VéloVoûte is unusual, at first, to keep the balance bike with a protective frame made of rubber bands. A super-strong chain lock 3.5 m can then be wrapped around the frame and tire of the bicycle.
The cyclist must possess a padlock to close safely in the bin which is fastened the chain. The space also allows you to store personal items such as his helmet or his carrying case. Four bikes can be stored in each terminal.
Mr. Fournier does not hide his pride to offer a product “manufactured and designed in Saguenay 100%” for the XTR-COMP company. “I started working on this project four years ago, in collaboration with twenty experienced cyclists and local bicycle clubs.”
The designer has to be able to offer 2,000 parking terminals to the public next year. For now, a City restaurant La Baie offers the service to its customers. “We chose Quebec because it is a city very pro-cyclists,” he said.
A spokesman for the City, Jacques Perron, stated that the installation of these two parking terminals is a “test” for the moment. The municipal administration did not pay to host on its territory. Comments cyclists will dictate the procedure to determine if it should be to push the experience further, with investments in the key.
