A proposed niobium mine in Oka arouses sector citizens of the opposition, which rely on the exploitation and how to proceed Niobec Saint-Honore to denounce the project developer, Eco-Niobium.
The new Eco-Niobium promoter began a consultation process to inform its proposed niobium mine, Radio-Canada reported last week. The mine would operate an old site which had been in the 60 and 70. However mineral rights still belong to the company Niocan who wanted to revive the project, but which had been rejected by referendum in 2000.
A Facebook page, “Against the niobium mine in Oka” was created on March 16 to oppose the project of the new sponsor. The page, which has as Photo symbol of nuclear energy, collected so far almost 550 mentions “Like”.
The directors of the page share information found on developers and their previous projects, as well as documents about the Niobec mine. Niobec is the only niobium producing mine as Ferroniobium in the province.
Environmental releases Niobec are denounced, and the frequency and vibration felt by nearby citizens during blasting necessary for production. The expropriation process is also a source of concern for the group.
Officials of the Page has not responded to the Daily interview request.
