A pedestrian was hit to death by a VIA Rail passenger train mid evening Tuesday in Burlington, Ontario.
According to the Halton Regional Police, the incident occurred around 21:30. The death of the person was found by first responders as they arrive; the body lying on the tracks.
According to preliminary findings of the investigators, the person was struck by the train which was traveling eastward.
All rail traffic, both to the west than to the east, was interrupted for about two hours after the accident so that the scene of the drama can be examined.
Police have already ruled that a criminal act may have been committed.
Burlington is about thirty kilometers southwest of Toronto.
