One of the main buildings of the Metzger farm, located at 850 7th Simpson in Saint-Cyrille-de-Wendover, was destroyed by fire during the day Sunday . It is estimated that about 800 the number of pigs which have died in the violent blaze.
Firefighters from the Fire Department of Saint-Cyrille-de-Wendover were called to intervene at 10:45 for a fire that could be due to a problem of electrical order. Upon arrival at the scene, the items had already conquered much of the pigsty, forcing them to ask for reinforcements to their colleagues in Notre-Dame-du-Bon-Conseil and Drummondville. In total, they were thirty to intervene to control the blaze.
Despite the extensive damage, the engineers opted for an aggressive strategy, entering the building to extinguish the flames. They also took care of constantly spraying the propane tanks that were nearby.
Firefighters needed two hours to extinguish the flames, unfortunately they were not able to save the herd flames and the building is considered a total loss. The specialists of the Fire Department are hard at work to find the cause and exact origin of the disaster.
