A few dozen Maisonneuve CEGEP parties demonstrators peacefully marched through the streets in the Hochelaga-Maisonneuve neighborhood for fifteen minutes on Tuesday afternoon to protest the austerity measures of the Quebec government.
They were eventually rounded up by the police department of the City of Montreal (SPVM) on the Joliette Street, between Ontario Street and Rouen.
No less than 37 people received a statement of offense under P-6 Regulations for “refusal to comply”. “There had been some notification that the demonstration was declared illegal,” said Anie Lemieux, spokesman for the SPVM. The fine is at least $ 500 for a first offense.
