It is arguably the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League will announce a change to the schedule of the 2016 Canada-Russia series.
Last week, the Canadian Hockey League unveiled the six host cities of the series to be held next autumn. Saguenay is part and must host the match on 17 November.
The problem is that the Centre Georges-Vézina is already booked for a major Canadian short track speed skating competition, from 17 to 20 November. The application was filed by the Comets Chicoutimi and is told through the branches that the chances of a positive response are very large. It lacks official confirmation of Speed Skating Canada.
At the time of the announcement of the schedule of the 2016 Canada-Russia series, the QMJHL was not aware of the interest of the Comets for open Canadian national qualifying short track speed skating. She is now and she studied different solutions. The most likely is the inversion of the games of the series in Quebec. Instead of welcoming the meeting of 17 November, the Centre Georges-Vézina should receive the 15 November.
Two days later, the best QMJHL elements would face the Russian team in Baie-Comeau. Upon the conclusion of the meeting at the home of Chicoutimi, the sports center of the street Bégin will be prepared to meet the needs of Speed Skating Canada.
“We are watching the situation to find a solution, says Photi Sotiropoulos, Communications Director of the QMJHL. Things are on the table, including the ability to reverse the two games. It remains to be finalized. ”
