Putin accuses Washington of refusing dialogue on Syria

president-russe-vladimir-poutineVladimir Putin Thursday sharply criticized Washington’s attitude and its refusal to engage in direct dialogue with Russia in the Syrian issue, Russian Foreign recognizing nevertheless advanced to avoid incidents between Russian and US planes hunting over Syria.

On a visit to Astana, Kazakhstan, the Russian president has denounced the “unconstructive position” of the United States, which has raised an objection of inadmissibility to the Russian offer to host a US delegation to Moscow or to send Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev in Washington to discuss the Syrian conflict.

“I think that this position is not constructive and apparently the source of the weakness of the US position is its lack of a plan (for Syria). Obviously, there is simply nothing to discuss “with the Americans, said Mr Putin.

“I do not quite understand how our American partners can criticize counterterrorism actions of Russia in Syria while rejecting direct dialogue on important issues such as the political settlement” of the conflict, he added.

Russia claims to have offered the United States a delegation of US officials travel to Moscow. Then to the reluctance of Washington, Moscow has proposed that a Russian delegation led by Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev leaves for Washington.

According to the head of Russian diplomacy Sergey Lavrov, the United States refused both proposals.

“To be frank, we said we were not interested as Russia was not ready to contribute constructively to our control effort against Islamic State group”, confirmed Wednesday Josh Earnest, spokesman the White House. “Russia has its own plans (in Syria), and currently it performs the single,” he added.

Despite the failure of these attempts at dialogue, senior military officers of the two countries discussed via videoconference to avoid any air incident between their air forces operating in the skies of Syria.

During a telephone conversation Thursday between Lavrov and US Secretary of State John Kerry, Moscow and Washington “expressed their satisfaction with the work done by the ministries of defense and the Russian American,” according to Russian diplomacy.

An agreement could be signed “in the coming days”, said in Washington on Wednesday a US defense official at the end of the third session of discussions by video conference from the beginning of the Russian intervention in Syria on 30 September.

Sign of Russian determination to move forward with key players in the region, a “hotline” was established between Russian and Israeli air forces. And in parallel, the number 2 of the Russian Air Force arrived in Ankara for talks with Turkish military officials.

On the ground, Russian aviation continued its campaign of airstrikes, but with less intensity: she said it had hit 32 targets Islamic State Group (EI) in Syria in the last 24 hours, against 86 Tuesday.

This decrease in the number of air raids, which targeted the provinces of Damascus, Idleb (northwest), Hama, Aleppo (north) and Deir Ezzor (east), is due to “the offensive Syrian armed forces “in progress, said Russian Defense Ministry.

The Syrian regime has widened its offensive Thursday in central Syria, attacking the rebels in the province of Homs and attempting to seize a strategic importance in the town of Hama.
