Crossing guards affiliated with the CSN rallied in front of City Hall Saguenay Tuesday morning in order to denounce the slow pace of negotiations with the employer.
According to the regional president of the CSN, Engelbert Cottenoir only four meetings were held between the employees and the City since the expiry of the collective agreement on 31 August. Wage claims are also part of the disputed points. According to figures from the union, the crossing guards have an hourly rate of $ 13.62 on a week of 16 hours. Cities such as Trois-Rivières and Levis pay their employees $ 17.41 and $ 17.96 an hour, respectively, in addition to a number of hours paid higher.
“Saguenay offers only two percent increase, which equates to about 25 cents an hour, said Mr. Cottenoir, who has not felt the opening of the city on this. It’s a matter of respect and recognition in relation to the work done and the contribution of child safety. It is also a question of equity with other brigadiers Quebec. ”
For now, heavier pressure tactics are not part of the CSN plans.
“You always hope they have advanced to the negotiating table and that they reach a settlement, wished Angelbert Cottenoir. The negotiations will dictate the pace of future mobilizations. ”
The next meeting is scheduled with the employer on Wednesday. The Union school crossing guards represents more than 90 members.
