(New York) Another win, another source of concern in the Canadian environment …
After losing Brendan Gallagher in Sunday’s win against the New York Islanders, the Canadiens may have suffered an even greater loss than the two points won Wednesday night.
Carey Price injured his lower body and left the game in the second intermission. The CH however showed character after the loss of his best player, and scored two quick goals early in the third period.
It gave a 5-1 victory over the New York Rangers in a duel between the two best teams in the Eastern Conference.
Midway through the second period Price seemed uncomfortable after attempting a shift to the right. Therefore, it seemed awkward in his movements. And subsequent commercial break, Price went to the bench to talk with the therapist Graham Rynbend. So many signs that something was wrong.
In the middle of the second period, Carey Price seemed uncomfortable after attempting a move.
This is a second injury this season for Price. On October 29 in Edmonton, the masked man was also wounded in the lower body and missed the next nine games.
In his absence, the HC had made a 5-2-2 record, to 12 points out of a possible 18.
As he did during the first absence of Price, Mike Condon held up in relief, blocking 11 shots of New Yorkers.
After the match, Michel Therrien confirmed that Price was injured in the same place that during his previous absence. Head coach Mike Condon added that defend on Friday net in New Jersey and a guard will be reminded of the American League to act as substitute.
Forward Alexander Semin has also suffered a lower-body injury, and the match ended in third. It remains unclear the nature of his injury.
The competition internally
In the absence of Brendan Gallagher, the fight seems more open than ever to the right wing in the Canadian.
Wednesday night, Devante Smith-Pelly was treated to his first try at the right hand of Max Pacioretty and Tomas Plekanec, while Sven Andrighetto retained his position with Alex Gachenyuk and Lars Eller. And both players did everything to give himself the best chance to remain in offensive trios.
Andrighetto opened the scoring in the fifth minute, when the Rangers have forgotten a few feet of Henrik Lundqvist. The young Swiss has also helped his linemates to exert a constant pressure in the offensive zone in the first period.
Smith-Pelly has meanwhile doubled the lead visitors median. He also escaped the attention of the men in blue, and broke down the puck in the net after accepting a pass from Pacioretty.
Later in the meeting, Smith-Pelly also managed a good defensive withdrawal to prevent JT Miller threaten Price.
In short, the Rangers played a terrible first period after Alain Vigneault was reminded yet, in the morning, his team had suffered a hockey lesson in the last game against the Canadiens in October.
But scooping three penalties in the second period only, the HC has allowed opponents to find their bearings. The third punishment, that of Galchenyuk, it was finally too much. Ryan McDonagh took the opportunity to beat Price with a shot from the blue line, while Rick Nash veiled the view of the goalie.
It was a first goal for McDonagh against the organization that drafted him in 2007.
Then, Smith-Pelly scored his second of the evening net after only 17 seconds elapsed in the third period, and Galchenyuk has added 72 seconds later. A nice way to make Condon comfortable entering the game.
Smith-Pelly For it was doubled in first NHL season. He also enjoyed two evenings of two goals with the Ducks during the 2014 playoffs.
Max Pacioretty completed the scoring on the power play midway through the third period. On the game, Tomas Plekanec got his third pass of the game. Lundqvist was replaced by his deputy, Antti Raanta.
It is another victory for the Canadiens against the Rangers. Since the arrival of Michel Therrien behind the bench, Montrealers have won nine of 11 duels against their old rivals. Excluding the 5-0 thawed suffered by Canadian a year ago, the Rangers have scored only four goals in 10 other meetings.
The Canadiens will remain in the New York area for the American Thanksgiving, and play its next match Friday against the Devils in the state that saw Bruce Springsteen, Frank Sinatra and Bam Bam Bigelow.

> Mike Condon: “We, the guardians, we know how to move. You can see when a player is not at 100%. I began to prepare myself mentally. When one is auxiliary, it must be ready to jump into the thick of the action. ”
> Devante Smith-Pelly: “It went well. These players then are part of the elite of the league, they will succeed games. For both goals, I was alone. It was a nice pass from Patch [Pacioretty] on the first and Pleky [Plekanec] on the second. ”
