The former French President Jacques Chirac (1995-2007), 83, was hospitalized Wednesday in Paris because he felt “weak for several days,” but “his condition has no concern,” said Thursday at AFP her daughter Claude Chirac.
“Feeling weakened in recent days, Jacques Chirac was hospitalized Wednesday afternoon to make a general check of its condition. It should stay in the hospital for a few days or a short week. His condition shows no concern, “said the youngest daughter of the former Head of State, in charge of its communication during his presidency.
“His life is not in danger,” said a very close to the former president of anonymity.
Known for decades for its health iron, Jacques Chirac had met in September 2005, during his second presidency, his first real serious trouble. A stroke requires the then hospitalized urgently. This condition had then weakened sharply.
Since leaving the Elysee, he was hospitalized several times.
In December 2013, it had thus suffered a “kidney intervention” in Paris. In February 2014, he was also briefly hospitalized at the American Hospital in Neuilly-sur-Seine, near Paris, following a “violent attack of gout.”
In recent years, it has proven more and more difficult to move.
In January 2014, his wife Bernadette Chirac had said thinking that her husband will never speak in public. Twice elected head of state in 1995 and 2002 – following an unprecedented duel with the representative of the far-right National Front party – his twelve years of exercising power have made him President having the longest been in office after his Socialist predecessor Francois Mitterrand.
Jacques Chirac remains as the first former French head of state to have experienced the disgrace of a court sentence, in late 2011, in a case of fake jobs at a time when he was mayor of Paris (1977-1995).
He had obtained not to appear in court in relation to a degenerative neurological disease affecting his ability. The revelations at trial does not entamèrent clemency public. He remains the President “most friendly” for the French, far ahead of François Mitterrand and Charles de Gaulle, according to an April 2015 survey.
