The drug trafficker fled Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman was arrested Friday, six months after his spectacular escape through a tunnel with a high security prison, announced Enrique Pena Mexican President Nieto, whose popularity had greatly suffered from the run the drug lord.

The American Drug Agency (DEA) said she was “extremely satisfied” with the arrest and congratulated the Mexican authorities.
The Mexican Navy had recently conducted several operations in the states of Sinaloa and Durango northwest, in an attempt to capture the fugitive 58 years after his escape on 11 July.

The announcement comes shortly after his arrest that the Navy had informed killing five suspects in a shootout Friday in the city of Los Mochis in Sinaloa, which is the home of “El Chapo”. The Navy did not indicate however if the clash was related to the hunt for the drug trafficker.
Six people were detained after the shooting, which occurred after the Navy had spotted the presence of armed men in a house, according to a statement from the authorities.
Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman, 58, had escaped from the maximum security Altiplano prison near Mexico via a 1.5 km tunnel on a motorcycle attached to the rails and that opened on a house construction.
A reward of $ 3.8 million was offered for information leading to his capture.
The Mexican drug lord had been wounded in the leg and face during an operation by Mexican authorities who tried to capture him in October in the State of Sinaloa, authorities said. “El Chapo” had managed to flee.
