The boot, wheelbarrow and thimble will be thrown into oblivion in the new version of the board game Monopoly, giving way to tokens embodying in turn a tyrannosaurus rex, a penguin and a duck.
More than 4.3 million people from 146 countries voiced their preference for future tokens they prefer for the upcoming release of Monopoly, which is inspired by the streets of Atlantic City, New Jersey .
The company holding the table game, Hasbro, unveiled Friday morning eight tokens selected during a consultation that took place on the internet. Hasbro is based in Pawtucket, Rhode Island.
Hasbro Vice President of Marketing Jonathan Berkowitz said he was saddened to see the original tokens leave, including the thimble and the wheelbarrow, but stressed that it would be fun to see new followers of Monopoly The new tokens.
Sixty-four different tokens were offered to Internet users: an emoji, a sharp, a cell phone straight out of the 1980s and slippers in the shape of a rabbit were in particular in the race.
The Scottish terrier token, the one depicting a battleship and the other in the form of a racing car came out victorious. A top and another cat figurine are also among the winners.
The Scottish Terrier finished first with 212,476 votes, followed by Tyrannosaurus Rex, who collected 207,954. Top hat was third with 167,582 votes.
The new version of Monopoly is expected to be available in stores this fall. The original game dates back to 1935.
The 10 original tokens represent an iron, a purse, a lantern, a racing car, a thimble, a boot, a top hat, a cannon and a rocking horse.
