A Florida appeals court refused Wednesday to release on bail the teenage son of a Canadian diplomat pending his trial.
According to court records available online, a committee of three judges rejected the request of Marc Wabafiyebazu, 15 years old.
The young man, who will be tried as an adult, faces several charges, including concomitant murder a crime in connection with a shooting incident on March 30 in Miami who killed his brother and another teen .
According to police, Wabafiyebazu brothers tried to rob marijuana sellers and the situation escalated into exchanges of gunfire.
Teresa Mary Pooler judge ruled in June that the risk Wabafiyebazu absconding was too big and it would be difficult to obtain his extradition if he took refuge in Canada.
The accused is the son of Roxanne Dubé, Canada’s Consul General in Miami, who argues that her child is innocent.
Marc Wabafiyebazu pleaded not guilty.
