(Matane) A man with a heavy past judicial Dave Martel in Saint-René-de-Matane, briefly appeared before Judge Martin Gagnon Tuesday at Matane Courthouse. The man, 41, who is accused of unauthorized possession of firearms and non-compliance conditions, remains incarcerated pending further legal proceedings.
Dave Martel was arrested at his home on October 14 by the Sûreté du Québec, assisted by colleagues from the Emergency Response Team. During the search, officers found 33 firearms, including 31 long firearms, prohibited weapon, ammunition, high capacity magazines and several explosives.
In 2002, Martel was convicted of drug trafficking and possession of firearms. Since he was under a lifetime ban from possessing weapons.
At the same police operation, police conducted a second search in Matane, where they arrested Jacques Lemieux, an accomplice Dave Martel. They seized six firearms improperly stored and tablets of methamphetamine. The man, 59, also known to police, faces drug trafficking charges. The court banned the two stooges communicate with each other.
Tuesday, during the appearance of Dave Martel, Judge Gagnon reminded him that he remembered very well of him, while pointing out to him that he had taken a lot of weight. The judge set the trial for the form and the request for release on November 12 in Matane Courthouse.
Retired teacher accused of sexual assault
Jean-Yves Denis, a retired teacher of Matane, was absent during his appearance scheduled for Tuesday at the court of the place. The sexagenarian faces eight charges of a sexual nature against minors.
It is his lawyer, Mr. Pierre-Louis Fortin-Legris, who represented. Judge Martin Gagnon has set August 25 the next appearance of man to return and orientation. That’s when he will announce his intention to plead guilty or not.
The accused remains in custody pending further proceedings. According to our sources, his wife operated a home daycare.
