Unauthorized possession of weapons: a man with heavy past remains incarcerated

The man, 41, who is accused of unauthorized possession of firearms and non-compliance conditions, remains incarcerated pending further legal proceedings.

Dave Martel was arrested at his home on October 14 by the Sûreté du Québec, assisted by colleagues from the Emergency Response Team. During the search, officers found 33 firearms, including 31 long firearms, prohibited weapon, ammunition, high capacity magazines and several explosives.

In 2002, Martel was convicted of drug trafficking and possession of firearms. Since he was under a lifetime ban from possessing weapons.


At the same police operation, police conducted a second search in Matane, where they arrested Jacques Lemieux, an accomplice Dave Martel. They seized six firearms improperly stored and tablets of methamphetamine. The man, 59, also known to police, faces drug trafficking charges.
