A couple of sexagenarians stopped by the SQ

An elderly couple in their 60s was arrested by the Sûreté du Québec (SQ) on Tuesday during the dismantling of a cannabis production on a property on chemin du Moulin in St-Denis-de-Brompton.

A preliminary assessment reveals a few hundred shots found in a garage adjacent to a residence, as well as in a barn, according to Aurélie Guindon, spokesman for the SQ in the Eastern Townships. The full report of the seizure should be presented on Wednesday.

“The police arrested two people, a couple of 60-year-olds,” she said.

“They will later appear in connection with this operation, in particular to be accused of cannabis production and theft of energy, since the greenhouses were fueled by a diversion of electricity.”

This operation mobilized a dozen police officers of the SQ, including a handler.

Information on illegal activities of this type can be transmitted confidentially to the Criminal Intelligence Unit (1-800-659-4264) or Crime Stoppers (1-800-711-1800), Guindon recalls.
