At 44, soon 45, the good old Bartolo Colon has surprised the world of baseball, on Sunday, drawing a match with seven perfect runs in the uniform of the Texas Rangers.
“I never think about the age I am, I try to do my work, has simply said Colon, at the end of the match, as quoted on the web site of major league baseball. I’m happy to do this job and that’s what I think.”
The Dominican, who has already worn the colors of the Montreal Expos in 2002, has so retired the first 21 batters to face him. He has helped the Rangers eventually win 3-1 in the 10th inning against the Astros, in Houston.
After having given a purpose on balls to Carlos Correa and a double to Josh Reddick in the bottom of the eighth inning, Colon has completed his night after seven innings and two-thirds of work. It has allowed a point and one hit in addition to accumulate seven withdrawals at the stick.
“When I had launched seven rounds, I started to think about it, and admitted Colon, about the possibility of a perfect match. But I know that Altuve and these guys can hit.”
Colon could become the oldest pitcher to complete a perfect match, this brand owned by Randy Johnson, who had accomplished the feat at 40 years and 252 days, on may 18, 2004. It would have also been out of the book of records, the match without a point or shot course launched in 1991 by Nolan Ryan, at 44 years and 90 days.
The good words from the manager opposing
Even if he could not write a page of history, several have praised the Colon for the meeting on the mound. The manager of the Astros, A. J. Hinch was impressed.
“This is a guy who throws taken and it was a great match, acknowledged Hinch. He sent shots to the inside, outside, it started a little higher, a little lower. It is reinvented as a guy that can attack the strike zone in different locations.”
Interesting fact : Colon got the start for the Rangers due to an injury to Doug Fister last week. Otherwise, the formation of the Texas account, rather use it as a reliever this season.
