Archbishop of Simferopol and Crimea Clement received the refusal from the Russian authorities to pardon the prisoner Director Oleg Sentsov. As reported by “Crimean human rights group” with reference to the answer of the Commission of the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous district on the personal appeal of Archbishop Clement, the President of the Russian Federation.
“The document says that to start the procedure of pardon of the Ukrainian political prisoner Oleg Sentsov must apply to the President of Russia Vladimir Putin with the request in writing and pass it the administration of the penal institution where he is”, – stated in the message.
Officials refer to the response to the decree of the President of the Russian Federation No. 1500 of December 28, 2001 “About the Commission concerning pardon in territories of subjects of the Russian Federation”.
“Following consideration (statements, sentences and characteristics of the prisoner, – an edition) to make the conclusion about expediency of application of pardon and transferred to the Governor of the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous district. District Governor on the basis of the materials and conclusions of the Commission takes its own decision and makes a presentation to the President of the Russian Federation about expediency of application of pardon to the convicted person”, – the document says.
A month ago, Archbishop Clement wrote an appeal to Russian President Vladimir Putin calling for the release of all Ukrainian political prisoners.
