MONTREAL – At least thirty people, including several families, had to be evacuated due to a fire in the borough of Lachine, on Tuesday evening, while falling to Montreal a major snow storm.
In the middle of the evening, a fire broke out in a housing located on the first floor of a residential building with 24 housing units located on the rue Louis-Pare, in the borough of Lachine.
Fortunately, firefighters were able to limit the damage. The housing touched by the flames was heavily damaged when the flames spread between the first and second floor. The apartment above was damaged by the smoke that is also widespread in the public spaces, while the accommodation below has been damaged by water, summary Eric Dahmen, chief of operations for the Service de sécurité incendie de Montréal.
“Nobody was injured”, specified Mr. Dahmen, who mentioned that the Red Cross was on site to take care of the victims.
The cause of the fire remained unknown at the end of the evening. Sixty firefighters were called to fight the blaze.
