Chicoutimi School of Music: New Blood at the Board

The Chicoutimi School of Music is ready to return to a new base with a new board of directors, while 13 applications have been submitted for six positions.

There was some grumbling about the previous board of directors and obviously this had the effect of inflating attendance at the 2015-2016 Annual General Meeting held Wednesday evening at the Cégep de Montréal. Chicoutimi.

The School Board has nine elected positions, but three terms are still active. The situation thus led to the election of six members.

The newcomers are Marie-Claude Lavoie, Denis Turbide, Melissa Tremblay, Louise Ricard, Claudie Larouche and Patrice Tessier.

This arrival of new blood meant the exit for two members who were running, namely the outgoing president Marcel Trudel and the treasurer Blaise Gagnon.

He was pleased with the result when he stated at the meeting that he had never seen such interest at a general meeting of the organization and was pleased.

Earlier in the evening, the financial statements were tabled for 2015-2016. They show a deficit of $ 21,863, compared to $ 17,091 a year earlier.

According to the firm Gauthier and partner who carried out the analysis, this is a respectable sum considering that the organization still has more than $ 300,000 in investments and more than $ 40,000 in cash. The total budget is around $ 575,000.

The financial situation has resulted from the decline in enrollment in recent years. For example, in 2013-2014, there were 645 instrument registrations (one person can register for multiple instruments) and that number had dropped to 505 in 2015-2016. According to a professor present at the assembly, the fall would be even more dramatic this year.

In addition, the School of Music is still waiting for a denouement concerning new premises. The move announced at Carrefour Racine, owned by businessman Paul Boivin, has not yet materialized.

“The issue of relocation is still stagnating,” deplored outgoing President Marcel Trudel in his annual report.

It was indicated that the value of free rental at the Cégep de Chicoutimi, assumed by Saguenay, amounts to $ 149,000.
