The Patriarchate of Constantinople cannot grant the Tomos of autocephaly of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church without an Ecumenical Council. About this channel “112 Ukraine” said the Chairman of the Synodal information Department of the UOC Archbishop Clement.
“It is absolutely impossible for the reason that Ecumenical Councils had adopted the creed in which we confess that we believe in one, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church. That is, the Church is not some manifestation of the dictates of one of the representatives of the Church, is a community that unites all its equal members,” he explained, adding that in the history of the Church all major decisions were always made together.
“So today’s just weird to hear some statements regarding Constantinople, and that they can single-handedly decide the fate of another local Church. And, in fact, I think all this is nothing but fakes, because Constantinople has not released a single statement, a single text that would confirm it is his opinion,” he said.
Archbishop klyment said that the discussion and decision-making needs to gather representatives of all 15 local churches, but this did not happen, and in full situation with overcoming the Church schism in Ukraine was not discussed.
“Maybe this is the problem, it is because the Church of Constantinople speaks very inconsistent on overcoming the Church division in Ukraine, in fact not disclose any statements. We only hear some backstage stories, take some cases and solutions, which are completely classified, and none of the local churches has not the slightest idea what is really on the mind of the Patriarch of Constantinople and its Cathedral,” said the Archbishop.
Clement stressed that Ukrainian society has for years “in case of excitation against religious question.” “And this is due to the fact that he (President – ed.), categorically to separate the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, and more – to recognize schismatics are schismatics already for 27 years,” Clement explained the situation.
We will remind, now it is expected the decision on granting the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Kyiv Patriarchate of the Tomos of autocephaly, which to the Patriarchate of Constantinople, appealed not only representatives of the Church, but the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko and the Verkhovna Rada.
