London — Denis Villeneuve made a great showing among the finalists at the upcoming gala of the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA), the british equivalent of the Oscar.
The quebec filmmaker is vying in the category of the best director for his film Blade Runner, 2049, released this fall. In total, the film gets eight nominations, including in the categories original music, cinematography, editing, set design, make-up and hairstyles, sound and visual effects.
The film the Shape of Water ” (The water form) will start favourite at the gala. The fantasy thriller from Guillermo del Toro, which was shot in Toronto and Hamilton, has received nominations in twelve categories, Tuesday, including best film and best director.
The tragicomedy Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri (Three posters all around of Ebbing, Missouri), and the biographical movie about Winston Churchill The Darkest Hour (the darkest hour) have each received nine nominations.
The drama of the Second world War Dunkirk (Dunkerque) is named eight times, and I, Tonya (Me, Tonya), five times.
The films nominated in the category of best movie are, The Shape of Water, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, The Darkest Hour, Dunkirk and Call Me By Your Name.
The actresses nominated for a leading role are Annette Bening for Film Stars Don t Die in Liverpool, Frances McDormand for Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, Margot Robbie (I, Tonya, Sally Hawkins for The Shape of Water and Saoirse Ronan for Lady Bird.
On the side of the actors, are nominated Daniel Day-Lewis to The Phantom Thread, Gary Oldman for The Darkest Hour, Daniel Kaluuya to Get Out, ” Jamie Bell Film Stars Don t Die in Liverpool and Timothée Chalamet for Call Me By Your Name.
Among the supporting cast, named, we find the Canadian Christopher Plummer for All the Money in the World (All the money in the world). The veteran actor was replaced at the last minute Kevin Spacey, who has been removed from the film already completed in the wake of allegations of sexual misconduct to his place.
The prize winners british will be announced on the 18th of February, two weeks before the Oscar.
The ceremony will be hosted by the star of Absolutely Fabulous Joanna Lumley.
