People’s artist of Ukraine Roman Maiboroda has died on 76-m to year of life, according to the website of the National Opera of Ukraine.

“The rectorate, the scientific Council of the National music Academy of Ukraine named after P. I. Tchaikovsky with great sadness inform that on 76-m to year of life has gone into eternity a famous Ukrainian singer, people’s artist of Ukraine, laureate of National prize of Ukraine.Taras Shevchenko, acting Professor of the Department of Opera singing NMAU Tchaikovsky Roman G. Mayboroda”, – stated in the message.

The farewell ceremony will take place on 6 September in the foyer of the first floor of the National Opera from 11:00 to 12:30 p.m. the funeral service will be held in the Vladimir Cathedral at 13:00.

Roman Mayboroda was born on 28 August 1943 in the village Kyryiakivka (now globinsky district, Poltava region) in the family of composer G. I. Maiboroda. Graduated from SCC named after P. I. Tchaikovsky in 1971. 1971 — soloist of MAHATAB named after T. G. Shevchenko. Since 1988 — lecturer at the SCC named after P. Tchaikovsky (since 2011 — associate Professor). Among his pupils — the deserved artist of Ukraine Sergey Avdeev.

Laureate of all-Union competition of vocalists named after Glinka in Vilnius (1971, II prize), International competition in Toulouse (1974, III prize), Grand Prix and Golden medal of International competition of young Opera singers (Sofia, 1976). Successfully sang in operas by Verdi in Riga, Tallinn and Warsaw, in the season 2000-2001 was invited to Madrid’s Royal Opera. Left the stage in 2012.
