Hawking occupied the eighth place in the ranking of “100 geniuses of our time”. He became famous for his studies in astrophysics, in particular, the British studied the theory of black holes and the origin of the world in the Big Bang.
The scientist worked as the head of the Centre for theoretical cosmology at Cambridge University. Also Hawking was the author of several popular science books, in particular “a Brief history of time” and “Black holes and young universes”.
In 1963 he was diagnosed with an incurable disease – amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.
Hawking had three children.
