Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that his country is in the final stage of preparation for a new military operation in Syria. It is reported by the Anadolu news Agency.
“We are in the final stages of preparation for introduction to the regions in Syria, where we have provided stability through the “Shield of the Euphrates” and the “Olive branch”, the new regions. With God’s help in the near future we will release new areas, providing them security,” said Erdogan.
That Turkey plans to carry out another operation around its borders, it was reported in may. Erdogan said that the Turkish military is “ready for a new mission.”In early June, the Turkish leader said that if the Iraqi authorities won’t be able to resist the terrorist threat in the North of their country, Ankara will begin its anti-terrorist operation. Erdogan said that it will start when the Iraqi authorities say that more can not deter the enemy.
On 20 January, the General staff of the Turkish Armed forces announced the beginning of the ground operation “Olive branch”, which aims to create a 30-kilometer buffer zone along the border to guarantee that Turkey will not penetrate the “terrorists”.
In August 2016 Turkey started the operation “Shield of the Euphrates” in the Syrian province of Aleppo. Erdogan said that this operation is aimed against the terrorist organization ISIS and “terrorist groups of Syrian Kurds threaten Turkey.” Also declared the goal of putting an end to the rule of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.
