Fraud attempts via SMS, warns the RPM

A new form of scam via text message has recently appeared in the Magog region.

According to the Régie de police de Memphrémagog (RPM), people receive messages on their smart phones from telecommunications companies, telling them that they had been overcharged.

“The message invites people to click on a link to be reimbursed,” says Paul Tear, spokesperson for the RPM.

“The Régie de police recommends vigilance and does not respond to this type of message, regardless of the company posted. Delete the message and in case of doubt, contact the company yourself, on your own, to verify. ”
