In Ukraine came into force law No. 2598-VIII on the transfer of St. Andrew’s Church in the use of the Ecumenical Patriarchate.
St. Andrew’s Church will give free permanent use of the Ecumenical Patriarchate for worship, religious rites, ceremonies and processions, provided that the Ecumenical Patriarchate will adhere to the law on the protection of cultural heritage. The building itself will remain in state ownership.
Recall President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko registered the draft law in the Verkhovna Rada on 17 October. The deputies supported the President’s initiative on the following day by 237 votes. Recently, the President signed the new law.
Earlier in the press service of the National reserve “Sophia of Kyiv” reported that for the transfer of St. Andrew’s Church in the use of the Ecumenical Patriarchate with representatives of Constantinople sign a contract. The Church will remain in state ownership and will be opened after restoration.
