Iran has threatened to recover the uranium enrichment if Europe will support the US sanctions. This was stated by Iranian foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif in an interview with Der Spiegel.
As stated Zarif, the EU is not sufficiently clearly responded to the US withdrawal from the nuclear agreement.
“The Europeans and other signatories must act to offset the effects of U.S. sanctions,” – he said and stressed that first of all it concerns the banking system and the oil business.
In case of violation of “balance” Iran is considering the option of a complete severance of the nuclear agreement in 2015, or partial application, one embodiment of which is a return to uranium enrichment.
Zarif also urged the EU to penalize European companies that cease business in Iran because of U.S. sanctions.
“The Europeans must decide whether they are ready to confirm their words with action,” he said.
At the moment, he said, the situation looks as if Europe is “subject to us dictates”.
We will remind, on may 8, U.S. President Donald trump said that America emerges from the agreement on the Iranian nuclear program and restores sanctions against Iran. Sanctions will resume gradually, and this process will take from three to six months.
Later it became known that the U.S. imposed additional sanctions against Iran and threatened to impose them in relation to European companies that do business with him.
Iran in response has threatened to block oil deliveries through the Strait of Hormuz in the Persian Gulf.
