Medvedchuk: Tomos will launch a series of raids of Church property

Медведчук: Томос даст старт череде рейдерских захватов церковного имущества

Granting Ukraine Thomas will launch a series of raids on the Church property. This opinion was expressed by Ukrainian politician, the leader of the movement “Ukrainian choice” Viktor Medvedchuk.

Medvedchuk commented on the statement of Patriarch of the UOC (KP) Filaret that in the case of obtaining Thomas Orthodox shrines Orthodox Church will be selected at the sole canonical and transferred to the Autocephalous Church. “The fact that there is no ownership of the Moscow Patriarchate in Ukraine has not. Here take, for example, Kiev-Pechersk Lavra, Pochayiv Lavra – whose property? Property of the Ukrainian state. The state transferred its property to the use of the Ukrainian Church of the Moscow Patriarchate. But when it recognize the Ukrainian Church, the monastery – and another, and another – will give the Ukrainian Church. Because it is the Orthodox Church,” said Filaret.

According to Medvedchuk, this statement means that if for some reason Tomos will be given, it will launch a series of raids of Church property inevitably associated with violence and arbitrariness of the officials, the nationalist-radical groups and their spiritual inspirers. “This is a serious signal for the Armenian Patriarchate of Constantinople and all Orthodox churches in the world about what happens in the case of granting of the Tomos. But the message of the Ecumenical Patriarch to the President of Ukraine says: “the Church took the initiative to restore the unity of the Orthodox believers of Ukraine”. What is going to be used Tomos Filaret, shows, neither of which the restoration of unity of the Orthodox it to be. And responsibility for the seizure of Church property, violence and persecution of the clergy will fall on those to whom today the appeal of the UOC-KP and the Ukrainian authorities”, – concluded Medvedchuk.
