The Kremlin raises the retirement age in the country
In Russia, the 2019 will begin the process of raising the retirement age – men retired at 65 and women at 63, but the transition period will last 10-15 years.
This was stated by Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, reports segodnya.ua.
According to him, the current pension threshold was set in the 30-ies of the last century, but has since increased life expectancy.
“Since then, life expectancy has increased by more than 30 years, furthermore, changed social conditions, and working conditions. And the timing of retirement remain the same. Them so it’s time to reconsider. People of retirement age about 30 years ago and today, is just different people. Many at this age are full of energy and desire to work. They don’t want to retire, they still work,” – said Medvedev.
He proposed to introduce a transition period for reaching the new retirement age.
“It is proposed to start in 2019, to incrementally reach retirement at 65 years for men in the year 2028, and 63 years for women in 2034”, – said the head of the Russian government.
Note that currently in Russia, men retire at 60, women at 55.
We will remind that earlier Russian President Vladimir Putin is categorically against raising the retirement age in his country. “While I am President, such a decision will not be taken”.
In Russia has reacted harshly to the news. The opposition and ordinary citizens are surprised that during the election campaign Putin was not talking about such plans as soon as he was elected President, went unpopular decisions.
