The meeting of Patriarch of Moscow and all Russia Kirill with Patriarch Bartholomew of Constantinople, which was held on Friday, August 31, in Istanbul, wore a fraternal and sincere and can lead to any decisions of these synods of local churches. This was stated by the head of the Department for external Church relations of the Moscow Patriarchate Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, according to “Izvestia”.
“Have you taken any decisions in this meeting? I would like to say this: two of the Patriarch can’t go out and just make some decisions for their churches, because each Orthodox Church is governed by the Cathedral. At the head of the Church is the bishops ‘ Council and between the Council of bishops Church is governed by a Holy Synod. And every Patriarch, of course, representing his Church, speaks from her face. But decisions are not made in a kind of offstage, and the synods of the respective churches,” he told reporters.
According to Metropolitan Hilarion, the conversation may lead to some solution of the synods of Constantinople and the Russian Orthodox Church. He noted, however, that while this decision “too early”.
“From beginning to end, the discussion was very sincere and very fraternal in nature. We left Constantinople with very light feelings and with a very good mood,” he said.
Earlier, on 31 August, Patriarch of Moscow and all Russia Kirill has praised the results of the meeting. He noted that the cooperation of the Orthodox churches around the world should be more dynamic according to modern environment.
