Law No. 2598-VIII on the transfer of St. Andrew’s Church in the use of the Ecumenical Patriarchate officially published in the parliamentary newspaper “Voice of Ukraine”. The document will come into force tomorrow.
St. Andrew’s Church will give free permanent use of the Ecumenical Patriarchate for worship, religious rites, ceremonies and processions, with the proviso that the Ecumenical Patriarchate will comply with legislation on the protection of cultural heritage.
The transfer of the building in use does not entail exclusion from the list of immovable objects of cultural heritage of the reserve “Sophia of Kyiv”. The structure will remain in state ownership.
Recall President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko registered the draft law in the Verkhovna Rada on 17 October. The deputies supported the President’s initiative on the following day by 237 votes. Recently, the President signed the new law.
