In the Kherson region recorded another fatal case of botulism. About it reports a press-service of the Ministry of health.

Reportedly, the man’s too late sought medical help, and to save him failed. He was taken to the Kherson regional clinical hospital the evening of 10 September in critical condition. To help him failed – the patient died an hour after admission.

His wife, also in serious condition, continues to be in intensive care.

The probable cause of infection, according to preliminary estimates, was the smoked fish homemade.

The Ministry of health indicate that this is the eighth fatal case of botulism in 2018, and the urge to go to the doctor at the slightest suspicion of infection. The most common symptoms, similar to the Ministry, are disorders of vision and speech, muscle weakness, General infectious intoxication (diarrhea, vomiting, abdominal pain, slight fever), depression of the respiratory muscles, which in the absence of medical care, death can occur due to respiratory failure. In children the symptoms also noted apathy, refusal to eat, prolonged crying.

To prevent botulism, you should avoid the use of dried, salted and canned fish, if there is no certainty as to its origin and quality. Also you should avoid foods that could be stored and transported with the violation of the necessary conditions.

In total, according to the Ministry of health, with the beginning of 2018, and as of 11 September, there were 80 cases of botulism, which affected 93 people, 8 of them fatal.

Previously reported fatal case of botulism in Kharkov. Police launched an investigation into the origin of the fish, after drinking which the victim contracted a couple. Also, cases of botulism are reported in Kiev.
