The Patriarch of the Serbian Orthodox Church Irenaeus in a letter to Patriarch Bartholomew spoke strongly against the recognition of the schisms in Ukraine, Macedonia and Montenegro. About this he wrote in a letter to Patriarch Bartholomew, which was published by the Agency Romfea.
According to the Agency, the letter outlining the conclusions from the discussions of the national divisions in modern Christianity in the Holy Synod of the hierarchy of the Serbian Church, also addresses the issue of the granting of the Tomos of autocephaly of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Kyiv Patriarchate.
Patriarch Irinej calls the actions aimed at the recognition of the UOC-KP fatal to the unity of Orthodoxy. In particular, those he considers “justification and the restoration of dissenters of the rank of bishops, especially the schismatic Kiev Philaret Denisenko”. He is convinced that priests and parishioners of the UOC-KP, separated from the Russian Orthodox Church without the approval of the Moscow Patriarch, must return to the ROC.
In his opinion, the action for the rehabilitation of priests of the UOC-KP “will mean, however, non-brotherly attitude to the Martyr Church in the Russian lands,” which, as expected, the Primate of the Serbian Church, in any case will not happen.
“Under no circumstances, influences or pressures Her (of the Church of Constantinople –ed.) is not allowed to resort to any hasty action that may harm the pan-Orthodox unity, prolonging the life of dissenters, while it (the split) should be to heal and overcome,” – said Patriarch Irinej.
