The foreign Ministers of the US and Russia Mike Pompeo and Sergei Lavrov spoke by phone on Friday. They discussed the new anti-Russian sanctions, the situation in Syria and a number of other issues. This is stated in the official statement of the press Secretary, U.S. Department of State Heather Nauert, reports UKRINFORM.
“The Secretary of state discussed with Minister Lavrov’s recent sanctions imposed against Russia in accordance with the Law on the control of chemical and biological weapons and elimination of chemical warfare agents (CBW Act of 1991)”, – noted in the state Department.
Mike Pompeo expressed the position of the current administration that the United States seeks to improve relations with Russia and is ready to promote dialogue, added the spokesman.
As reported, Russian foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov expressed his categorical rejection of the new us sanctions against Russia.
“The Russian side had expressed a categorical rejection of the recently announced Washington’s new sanctions, citing the alleged information about the Russian involvement in the so-called “case Skrypalia”, – stated in the Ministry statement.
As noted in the Agency, Lavrov stressed that neither the US nor the UK have not provided a single fact “to support such claims”.
