The President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko outraged by the decision of the Russian Supreme court, which upheld the verdict to Ukrainian journalist Roman Sushchenko 12 years in prison. The head of state wrote on his page in Facebook.
“Initially it was a farce, and the absurdity of “ships” on the Novel is obvious to the whole civilized world. In Russia still going on in 1937, while we are fighting Russia’s aggression and the struggle for liberation of the Ukrainian hostages of the Kremlin”, – wrote Poroshenko.
The President stressed that Sushchenko waiting at home.
“Roman, you wait and struggle, and the day of your liberation is approaching. We unite the world community, are working to continue the sanctions pressure for your speedy release and release of other of our compatriots,” – said Poroshenko.
Today, the Supreme court rejected the appeal against the sentence Sushchenko 12 years of imprisonment. Such a sentence, according to first Deputy Parliament speaker, paving the way for the commencement of his pardon and transfer to the territory of Ukraine.
As reported, the FSB of Russia detained the journalist “UKRINFORM” Roman Sushchenko at the end of September 2016. He was accused of espionage. The lawyer said that Sushchenko threatening 20 year prison term in the case of non-recognition of their guilt. Ukraine has repeatedly asked Russia to immediately release the journalist.
We will remind, the Moscow city court on 4 June Sushchenko sentenced to 12 years in a strict regime colony. The trial in the case against the journalist was held behind closed doors, so court was announced only introductory and operative part of the judgment.
