The President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko in a telephone conversation with the presidents of Slovakia and Finland on the occasion of independence Day of Ukraine raised the question of liberation of hostages and political prisoners held in Russia and in the occupied territories. In conversation with President of Slovakia Andrej Kiska Poroshenko expressed gratitude for the efforts for the release of political prisoners illegally held in Russia and in the occupied territories.

The sides discussed topical issues of bilateral agenda and coordinated cooperation within the framework of the UN General Assembly.

With President of Finland Sauli Niinistö and Poroshenko coordinated positions and further efforts to ensure progress in the peaceful settlement of the situation in the Donbass.

“They noted the importance of liberation of the Ukrainian hostages and political prisoners illegally held in the temporarily occupied territories and Russia, in particular the immediate release of Ukrainian Director Oleg Sentsov,” – said in the message.

The presidents of Ukraine and Finland discussed issues of bilateral agenda, in particular the agreed period the following contacts at the highest level.

Ukraine celebrates the 27th Day of Independence today, August 24.
