The official summons came to the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko on the issue connected with treason in criminal case of Viktor Yanukovych. The decision approved the staff of the Obolon district court of Kiev.
The petition on this issue was expressed by the prosecution. They believe that the President of Ukraine may give evidence relating to the events which accompanied the accession of Crimea to the Russian Federation in March 2014, and the incident of the escape of Yanukovych a month earlier. Protection ex-the President did not object to the challenge to Poroshenko.
In addition to Poroshenko, the court will visit such “prominent” on the Ukrainian political arena personalities as Andrey Parubiy, Yatsenyuk and Arsen Avakov. While they were questioning at the pre-trial investigation.
The former President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych is accused under several articles, among them treason, and complicity in the actions that led to the change of state borders.
Yanukovych refused at the beginning of 2017 to participate in the process, announcing it on video. All of their representatives, he withdrew and said that the trial against him was nothing more than “profanity”.
