The President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko has today submitted to Parliament a draft of amendments to the Constitution of the Euro-Atlantic direction of Ukraine. This was announced by the representative of the President in the Verkhovna Rada Iryna Lutsenko during meeting of a coordination Board lie, the broadcast led official channel “Rada”.
“Today President of Ukraine registered the amendments to the Constitution of Ukraine concerning fixing in European, Euro-Atlantic direction of Ukraine. There will be changes made in article 85, 102, 116, which provides for liability of BP, the President of Ukraine and the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine to consolidate the European, Euro-Atlantic direction. In addition, there will be changes in the preamble of the Constitution”, – said Irina Lutsenko.
According to her, the document also includes an exception provision that allows the use of existing military bases on the territory of Ukraine for temporary stay of military units under lease under international treaties.
“Means the stay of Russian black sea fleet on the Crimean Peninsula which is Ukrainian. Accordingly, the President will be made such proposals”, – explained the representative of the President in Parliament.
She urged the MPs to look at these changes and support them.
Recall that in 2017, the Parliament of Ukraine adopted the law, restoring the country’s course towards NATO membership as a strategic objective of the foreign and security policy. In turn, NATO began a discussion about the possibility of providing a Plan of action concerning membership of Ukraine in Alliance. A year later, the members of NATO have confirmed that Ukraine is a country-graduate student. In other words, a state which has expressed interest in joining the Alliance.
