Railways: Passenger traffic between Ukraine and Russia increased by 17% in 2018

For 6 months of 2018 message Ukraine – Russian Federation carried 358,9 thousand passengers, which is 17.1% less than the corresponding period last year. This was reported by the press service of “Ukrzaliznytsya”.

To 2017 in the direction of Ukraine – the Russian Federation was carried 0,9 million passengers, compared with 2013, the number decreased by more than 5 times, and the downward trend in ridership continues.

For the first half of 2018, “Ukrzaliznytsia” has received financial result from the operation of trains in the direction of the Russian Federation and back in the amount of 177,580 million.

Nearly 63 million UAH industry has brought the running of train No. 6/5 Kyiv – Moscow, followed by train No. 74/73 Lviv – Moscow with financial performance to more than 38 million UAH. In General, in the schedule of passenger trains on the year 2017/2018 transportation between Ukraine and the Russian Federation are provided with running 8 pairs of trains.

Recall, since 11 December 2017 Russia has fully transferred the train to the running of bypassing Ukraine via the new railway line zhuravka – Millerovo. The respective decision entered into force on 15 November. The railroad built in the Rostov and Voronezh regions, it became part of the high-speed rail corridor connecting Central Russia with the black sea coast. Double-track electrified railway line began to build at the zhuravka – Millerovo after in 2014 between Russia and Ukraine broke out armed conflict in the Donbass. Since then, the “Ukrzaliznytsia” examines the question of termination of railway communication with Russia.
