The agreement between the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko and the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew does not mean the creation of an independent Ukrainian Orthodox Church. This was stated by Chairman of the Synodal Department for Church-state relations with public and mass media Vladimir Legoyda in his Telegram channel.
“Explain to those who do not say a word about the “rule of three” sources: Agreement between the government of Ukraine and the Constantinople Patriarchate does not mean that the Ukrainian Church. While there’s not much to comment on that,” he said.
According to Legoyda, it is only the agreement on cooperation between Ukraine and the Ecumenical Patriarchate, the signing of such agreement will change nothing for “millions of believers in Ukraine.”
As previously reported, today in Istanbul the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko and Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew signed a cooperation agreement.
“The agreement we signed today creates all the conditions for the preparation process to the Cathedral, the process of granting of the Tomos was given in absolutely strict accordance with the canons of the Orthodox Church. I congratulate you with the signing of this Agreement. I want to emphasize that 3 November is a historic day for the creation of the Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church”, – said the Ukrainian President.
