Only a combination of dialogue, diplomacy and sanctions could lead to a peaceful resolution of the conflict in Ukraine.
The EU must be ready to respond with new economic sanctions on Russia’s actions in situations of conflict. This was stressed by European Parliament President Martin Schulz in his speech at the European Council meeting in Brussels on Thursday.
“This three-tiered sanctions EU should be. It’s not only a response to the illegal actions of Russia in Ukraine, but also to deter any further aggression and motivating factor to continue negotiations,” – he said.
“We have to start working on another package of possible measures to target sectoral our readiness in case of further escalation of the conflict,” – said the president of the European Parliament.
He believes that only a combination of dialogue, diplomacy and sanctions could lead to a peaceful resolution of the conflict in Ukraine.
Schultz also said that peace talks should be conducted not only at the level tripartite contact group, including Ukrainian and Russian leadership, but also with the participation of the EU and the US.
Recall that in late October the EU upheld sanctions against Russia .
