The Minister of foreign Affairs of Ukraine Pavlo Klimkin asked the world to support the Ukrainian political prisoner Oleg Sentsov and demand his release from the Russian Federation. About this he wrote on his Twitter page.
“Today is the 89th day of hunger strike of Oleg Sentsov, a prisoner in Russia. Oleg is on the verge of life and death. Any day it can happen”, – said the Minister.
We will remind, Oleg Sentsov – Ukrainian film Director, was an activist of Euromaidan, he helped Ukrainian soldiers in the Crimea during the annexation. In may 2014, was arrested by the FSB of Russia.
The Director was sentenced in Russia to 20 years in prison on 25 August 2015. The court found him guilty of creating in the Crimea of the terrorist community and guide them, as well as illegal possession of firearms and ammunition, two terrorist acts and the preparation of another attack. Sentsov pleaded not guilty.
May 14, 2018, the Director announced an indefinite hunger strike. The Director does not eat anything for 89 days. The main requirement – the release 64 of Ukrainian political prisoners, themselves in this list it is not included.
In early August Sentsov wrote his sister that “the end is nigh, and this is not about liberation”. He barely gets out of bed and they won’t deliver the letters.
Yesterday, 9 August, Commissioner for human rights in the Russian Federation Tatiana Moskalkova sent the Ukrainian Ombudsman Lyudmila Denisova photos of Ukrainian political prisoner Oleg Sentsov. Moskalkova insists that the inmate’s condition is stable.
